Element Definition

Transportation infrastructure (roads) is defined as publicly and privately maintained roadway corridors used for vehicular travel. For this element, roads include only those roadway segments identified in authoritative transportation or mapping datasets as existing roads at the time of data compilation. Planned, proposed, or decommissioned roads are not included.

Mapped Feature Description

This element is displayed as linear features representing the mapped alignments of roadways in Illinois. Road geometries reflect centerlines or right-of-way representations as provided in the source datasets at the time of publication. The map does not depict traffic volume, road condition, load limits, access restrictions, or construction schedules.
