Transportation Infrastructure Rail

Element Definition

Transportation infrastructure (rails) is defined as railroad corridors used for freight or passenger rail transport. For this element, rail infrastructure includes only rail lines identified in authoritative transportation or mapping datasets as existing railroads at the time of data compilation. Abandoned, removed, or proposed rail lines are not included.

Mapped Feature Description

This element is displayed as linear features representing the mapped alignments of railroad tracks in Illinois. Rail geometries reflect centerline representations as provided in the source datasets at the time of publication. The map does not depict rail ownership, traffic volume, operational status, track condition, right-of-way width, or rail yard facilities beyond the mapped line features.
