Faults are defined as geologic structures characterized by displacement of rock units and identified as faults in authoritative geologic mapping and subsurface interpretation datasets. For this element, faults include only structures explicitly mapped and classified as faults by state or federal geological surveys based on surface mapping, subsurface data, geophysical interpretation, or integrated analyses. Unmapped or inferred faults not represented in the source datasets are not included.
