Tribal lands are defined as lands held in trust by the United States for federally recognized tribal nations or lands over which a federally recognized tribe exercises governmental authority. For this element, tribal lands include only lands identified in authoritative federal datasets as trust lands, reservation lands, or other legally recognized tribal land holdings. Lands without formal federal recognition or lands of cultural significance without a legal land designation are not included.
