Parks

Element Definition

Parks are defined as land areas that are formally designated for public use and managed by a federal, state, or local government entity. For this element, parks include only lands identified in authoritative governmental geospatial datasets as public parks, recreation areas, or conservation areas. Privately owned recreational lands, conservation easements without public designation, and informal open spaces are not included.

Mapped Feature Description

This element is displayed as polygon features representing the officially designated boundaries of public parks in Illinois. The polygons reflect administrative or legal park boundaries as recorded in the source datasets at the time of publication. The map does not depict zoning classifications, management plans, permitted activities, access restrictions, or buffer zones beyond the mapped park boundary.
