Element Definition
Historic places are defined as properties that are formally listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). For this element, historic places include only properties with an active listing status in the National Park Service National Register of Historic Places database at the time of data compilation. Properties that are locally designated but not listed on the NRHP are not included.
Mapped Feature Description
This element is displayed as point and polygon features representing the recorded locations and extents of National Register of Historic Places properties in Illinois. Feature geometry reflects the spatial representation provided in the source dataset and may consist of points, parcels, or boundary polygons depending on the documentation associated with each listing. The map does not depict viewsheds, buffer zones, areas of archaeological sensitivity beyond the listed property boundary, or properties under review but not formally listed.
