For CCS projects to be viable, the impacted community must find the proposed project to be acceptable. All societal play elements fall into the same category, which is acceptance.
The Societal CRS Map indicates a suitable fairway across the entire state. Areas shown as white space generally correspond to city limits, where additional information is needed to assess suitability from a public-acceptance perspective. Areas classified as less suitable correspond to the Mahomet Aquifer Sole Source Aquifer, which has specific restrictions on the siting of carbon capture and storage projects under Illinois Public Act 104-0119.
